Subject matter includes monographs about natural history in the Pacific Northwest. This series is numbered consecutively as independent monographs and appears at irregular intervals; there are no subscriptions.
"Yaquina" refers to an Indian tribe, a river, an estuary, a headland, and an abandoned town along the central coast of Oregon, but this series is not limited to that geographical area. "Yaquina" also symbolizes the sense of geography or "place" that we can acquire for wherever we may be.

SOO No. 5 (1988). Oiled Birds: How to Search for and Capture Oiled Birds at Oregon Intertidal Areas. R. D. Bayer. This will not be made available on the Internet because of concerns about liability and because governmental policy has changed. When this was written, oiled birds were mainly collected by private citizens, but, starting with the New Carissa wreck near Coos Bay in early 1999, collecting oiled birds is now supposed to be done only by those who have been contracted to do so by governmental agencies. This paper was in response to my involvement in the Blue Magpie wreck in November 1983--see the following paper for information about this wreck.

Neither this series nor the former Studies in Oregon Ornithlogy are affiliated with or supported by Oregon Field Ornithologists or the "Oregon Fund for Ornithology," which was founded in September 1988 (1988 Oregon Birds 14[4]:315), two years after the Studies in Oregon Ornithology was first published.
Early monographs were done prior to HTML and PDF programs and on a 1984 word processor, so it is a slow process making them available on the Internet, especially since time is in short supply. But I hope to eventually finish this process.
All files are listed so that they can be more easily downloaded. This web server is case sensitive, so all filenames are in lower case letters. The filename includes the SOO issue number (e.g., SOO No. 2=s2.htm). If a monograph has been split into several files, the files will be listed alphabetically (e.g., SOO No. 1 could be split into s1a.htm, s1b.htm, s1c.htm, etc.). For images, the filename will include the page number of the image (e.g., s1-135.gif is a GIF file from p. 135 of SOO No. 1).
Special thanks to Lucy Biggs of Eugene, who was formerly the Oregon Birders On-Line (OBOL) Webmaster, for her assistance in preparing this page, for initially converting JOO No. 1-5 files to HTML, and providing computer space for these files through early February 1997!
