Dear Mr. Hutmacher:
This is to inform you that at their regular monthly meeting on June 25, 2003, the Port of Newport Board of Commissioners denied your request for moorage for your airboat at the Port of Newport facilities.
This decision was based on further discussions and information received after you spoke to the Commission at the May meeting. The Commission received several comments and written statements from both the general public and state and federal agencies about the adverse effects, however unintentional, that an airboat would have on migratory birds, fish, and mammals in the bay and estuary. The Commissioners also felt that airboat rides would contribute to water traffic congestion, add unwanted noise, and create certain safety risks to small recreational boats using the bay.
Enclosed you will find copies of the correspondence the Port received regarding your proposal for commercial airboat rides in Yaquina Bay. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or those agencies directly.
Sincerely,
