NOTE: If you have nothing in here it should still work but you
probably will not be able to save your password used when you
connect to the internet. If you want to be able to save your
password so that you don't have to type it in every time you dial
in, AFTER COMPLETELY FINISHING these "Setting up the Network
Control Panel" instructions, go to the "Installing Client for Microsoft Networks"
instructions below.
Click on the DNS Configuration tab

Click just once on the "dialoregon.net" icon so it is
highlighted
Click on the File menu at the top of the Dial-up Networking
window and choose Properties
Continue with the configuration of your new Dial-up
Networking connection icon at Step 7
below to set up the Server Type options.
Depending on what you see at this point, do the following:
If you see a Connection tab, click on it, then if you have
a box labeled "Connect to the internet using a modem", make sure
the box is checked, and click on the Settings button
If you see a Connection tab, click on it, then if you have
a box labeled "Connect to the internet as needed", make sure the
box is checked

have a box labeled "Use Auto-Dial", make sure the box is checked
Below where it says "Use the Following Dial-Up Networking
Connection" (or it might say "Choose the Dial-Up Networking
connection used to dial the internet"), click on the down arrow at
the end of the box there
If you have already created a connection for use with
dialoregon.net, click on its name in the drop-down box
NOTE: If you do NOT have a dialoregon.net connection already created:
Click on the "Add" button
Type a name for the connection (we suggest "dialoregon.net")
NOTE: The instructions below are for using the Internet Explorer
web browser. If you do not want to use that browser and you have a
different browser, such as Netscape, you should be able to start-up
Netscape at this point and reach the "Connect to dialoregon.net" window

then double-click on the Dial-up Networking icon, then double-click
on the "dialoregon.net" icon.
Double click on the icon labeled "The Internet" (or "Internet
Explorer") on your desktop
If this is the first time you have double-clicked on the

that you select the option to use a "Current" connection and make
sure your connection that is setup for use with dialoregon.net is the connection to be used.
Click on "OK" or "next" if necessary. You should eventually
see the "Connect to dialoregon.net" window
Make sure your Online Services user name is entered in the "User name" box
You need to enter your password in the password box
You can click the save password box if you don't want to have
to retype it each time. This will make it so those who do NOT
have your password can dial in and use your account. If you do
not have a shared account or if you do but you do not want others
using your time, you may not want to select this box. If the box
is grayed out so that you can not select it and you'd like to be
able to select it, goto the "Installing Client
for Microsoft Networks" portion of the instructions below.
You may click on the "Connect" button when you are ready to
dial.
After you are connected, the Internet Explorer web browser
will come up and bring you to some web page. If you need help
using the Internet Explorer browser, please choose the Help menu
and choose the help topics or tutorial options shown there.
NOTE: When you are finished using your internet connection, you
must make sure to disconnect, or you will waste your online time for
the month.
When you close your web browser (such as Internet Explorer or
Netscape), you may be prompted to disconnect. If so, click on the
disconnect button.
If you are not prompted to disconnect, follow one of the two
methods below (depending on what you have) to disconnect
You might have an icon of two computers connected to each
other located next to the time display on your Windows 95 task
bar; if so, double-click on that icon and click on the
Disconnect button
You might have an item labeled "Connected to dialoregon.net"
(or whatever name you gave your dialoregon.net connection) located on
your Windows 95 task bar; if so, click on that item and click on
the Disconnect button
Make sure you have "Internet Mail" in the "Mail" box If you
do not have an Internet mail option, you can download it from
Microsoft's web page or use another e-mail program, such as
Eudora, Netscape Mail, etc.
Click "OK"
Exit your control panel
Click on your "Start" button
Go to "Programs" and click on "Internet Mail" If this is the
first time going into Internet Mail it will run you through a
setup wizard.
If you are asked to browse for a folder, just click on
"cancel"
The exact order in which your set-up wizard will ask for
information may vary, however, the information below WILL be
needed. Enter it in the appropriate box.

Click "OK"
Click on the "Identification" tab
Type in a name for your computer (it can be anything, the
easiest is to just use your first or last name)
Click in the "Workgroup" box and type in a workgroup
name. You can just put "workgroup" if you'd like, but again this
can be anything you want.
You do not need to put in the computer description unless you
want to.
Click "OK" and have your Win95 CD or diskettes handy
Your computer will copy some files and then ask you to
restart, go ahead and restart now.
During the reboot process, BEFORE actually getting you back
into Windows, your computer may ask you for a username and a
password. Put in the username (computer name) that you used in
the above step when you typed a name for your computer. Leave the
password field BLANK
Click "OK"
Leave the password field BLANK again and click OK By leaving
the password field blank, you will not be prompted for the
password again. If you put something in, you will be prompted for
it everytime you boot up your computer.
You will see a new icon on your desktop called "Network
Neighborhood," just leave it alone. :)
You should now be able to click the save password box
mentioned above in the "Connecting to the
Internet" section of these instructions.
