Father Adrian Joseph Croquet was interested in the tribal affiliations of his parishioners at the Grand Ronde and Siletz reservations. Throughout most years of his long ministry at the church of St. Michael the Archangel, he recorded the names of the tribes of the Indians whom he baptized, married, or buried.
Two typical entries:
On the 17th day of January, 1861, was buried John Baptiste Laderoute of Kalapoaia nation, who died the day before at this mission, about 30 years old.
On the 24th day of January, 1861, we the undersigned priest have baptized Antoine, about 4 years old, born of Pokus and Mary of Umpqua nation, of this mission.
